whole lot happened in September, let me tell you! And I’ll be honest: almost every single one of my goals for September were partial or complete failures. But that’s okay! We learn from our failures at least as much as our successes, if not more, and it was worth it for me. Two BIG, crazy amazing projects offered themselves to me in September and I leapt at the opportunities. Because of that, I didn’t get as much done for my ‘official’ goals as I would have liked, but so much more got done instead. Have you ever had new goals take over your existing ones? Let me know in the comments!

September 2017’s Business Goals and Lessons Learned:

Bring on one new client – FAILURE

This was technically a failure, BUT I was blessed enough to be invited as a featured speaker for the 2017 Creativepreneur Summit! I’ll be speaking on How to Tackle Google Analytics on 10/9, though you can still access it after the session is over. While the Summit isn’t an actual client, it’s still getting Unit 25 out there, and for everyone who signs up for the All-Access Pass for the Summit, they’ll get access to a group coaching session from me, so that’s just shy of booking coaching clients. I’ll take the silver lining, for sure!

P.S. If you’re a creative entrepreneur and you want to learn from 25+ entrepreneurs on everything from sourcing products and materials to social media to systems and processes (and MORE!), make sure to check out the 2017 Creativepreneur Summit. The lineup of speakers is crazy awesome, and you’ll get so much out of it. Many of us are offering free bonuses, as well as even more bonuses for those who upgrade to the All-Access Pass, which you can do even after the Summit is over on the 12th (yay!).

If you’re in a period of growth and need a team to support you, Unit 25 can be your extra hands. Check out our branding, content, marketing, and support services – we would love to work with you! If you’re looking for a Growth Action Plan, check out our ACE Growth Coaching service, too.

Grow Pinterest to 375 followers – SUCCESS?

Okay, I’m counting this as a success! I had 374 Pinterest followers on 9/30, and that number popped up to 375 this morning. That totally counts, right? Right.

Post to Instagram at least three times a week – FAILURE

I wish I could say I’m surprised, but… I’m not. Instagram is NOT my best platform, and I’m struggling with motivation to get back onto it. I really do want to, but I’ve had such a lackluster experience with IG in the past, and with all of the feedback I’ve been hearing from others who are saying that engagement has plummeted, it’s not increasing my motivation. If anyone wants to drop some words of encouragement to get me back onto IG, I would sincerely appreciate it! If you want to join me, I’m at instagram.com/jennunit25 and I’d love to follow along with you too.

Revamp the Unit 25 copy/website layout – partial failure

This is still in the works. I made some progress and did revamp our services/coaching page and got my workflows updated in Dubsado as well, which was just as valuable (in my book, anyway). I’m probably going to work on the website revamp this month, but I might not add it to my ‘official’ goals for October. There’s a LOT of other things going down this month, which you’ll see in the next section, so I’ve got plenty on my plate already!

Send local marketing campaign out – partial failure

Well, I got the postcards, which was half the goal. The postcard cover art by Elizabeth Hope looks fantastic, by the way! However, because of all of the other things that came up in September (again, I’ll cover them in the next section), this goal got pushed further down the priorities list. I think it’s going to become an unofficial goal as well for the time being.

Unofficial: Create a productivity system – SUCCESS

I have always struggled with productivity. I seem to be one of those obnoxious people who thrives under pressure, whether it be deadlines or numerous projects at a time. There have been so many systems I’ve tried in order to conquer this: bullet journaling (which I still love), the Storyline Productivity Schedule (which I also still love), and those are just the most recent ones. Inevitably, I would get started strong and then slack off after a while. One of the problems with the two systems I just mentioned is probably that I had to update them every day. That was great for ensuring that they’re front and center in my mind, but it would take me an extra 30-60 minutes sometimes, which was NOT great for my productivity!

In September, I finally found what I’m hoping will be my final solution: Asana. I’ve tried it before, but this time, I’m doing it a bit differently. I have a system that doesn’t require daily updating (though it does require minimal weekly updating), and it encompasses both business and personal tasks and projects. I’m planning to write a blog post about it and possibly schedule a short webinar to teach you how to use the system, so if you’re interested in the webinar, make sure to let me know in the comments!

My Unit 25 Creative + Consulting Goals for October 2017:

Bring on one new client

This is kind of a recurring goal, which I think is okay. I’m excited for some of the projects that I have coming up this year, though – the podcast, the membership community, and the potential studio – all of which will put me in contact with some fantastic entrepreneurs, so hopefully this goal will come to fruition too!

If you’re in a period of growth and need a team to support you, Unit 25 can be your extra hands. Check out our branding, content, marketing, and support services – we would love to work with you! If you’re looking for a Growth Action Plan, check out our ACE Growth Coaching service, too.

Grow Pinterest to 425 followers

September’s goal was essentially met, so we’ll see if it happens again this month. The follow-unfollow issue doesn’t seem to have been as prevalent in September, so my fingers are crossed!

Post to Instagram at least three times a week

I’m still excited to try out Jenna Kutcher’s techniques and make deeper connections, but I’m not setting a followers goal. Hopefully October will give me the motivation to follow through with this finally. If you want to join me, I’m at instagram.com/jennunit25 and I’d love to follow along with you too!

Record three or more new podcast episodes

If you haven’t heard, I’m launching a podcast this year! The exact release date has not been settled on yet; I need to make sure I have a good lineup of episodes for the first season ready to go before I pick a date.

The podcast is a little unconventional: instead of having guest experts on, I’ll be talking with guest entrepreneurs. We’ll record a mini-coaching session to work through what’s going on in their business. Hearing how someone at your own stage of business worked through a problem can sometimes be even more beneficial than hearing from an ‘expert!’

If you’re interested in being part of the podcast, you can apply to be a guest at https://tsrp.typeform.com/to/gAZ25p. I’m excited to get to launch the podcast soon and maybe even get to chat with YOU on the podcast!

Make progress on the membership community

Last month, my friend Ashley from Blank Slate Media Consulting bounced an idea off of me. She’d found an available domain name that fit her exact target audience. It turned out to not be quite the right domain name, but while we tossed ideas back and forth, we realized that we both had very similar ideas. I’ve been planning a membership community for a while, and Ashley wanted to use her domain name to create a tight community as well.

We decided to combine our projects and are now going to be launching an awesome membership community together! We’d love to hear what you’d like to see in a membership community, so feel free to drop your ideas in the comments.

Research the studio storefront

Another big project that unexpectedly blossomed in September is a local creative studio. My friend Elizabeth found a beautiful, empty retail space in our town and was daydreaming about being able to use it as a space to create her art. The more we talked about it, the more we both felt like we could turn that space into something even more, though.

We’re now in the research phase of our project. If it comes together, we will be opening a creative co-working studio for artists, photographers, and crafters in 2018! Our members will be able to use the space to create their art, as well as display their pieces for sale in our physical and digital storefronts. We’re also planning to host workshops for creatives and creative entrepreneurs, giving our members and the community a chance to learn new creative skills and grow their businesses. It’s going to be a big undertaking, but if our market research shows that it’s a viable opportunity… it’s going to be crazy amazing. I can’t wait.

What are your goals for October 2017?

I want to support you in your goals, so tell me about them in the comments or send me an email and we can chat. I’m also building a Facebook community to support entrepreneurs who want to do more of what they love, and you are invited to join! I can’t wait to work on our goals together.
