August was a fun and crazy month! One of my unspoken goals was to make more local connections, so I got out of my comfort zone a bit and started doing local networking. You might be surprised to hear that an extrovert can dread in-person meetings! I LOVE talking to new people, but I HATE starting conversations and making awkward small talk. There was a Network After Work event happening near me, so I got Elizabeth from Art.ByElizabethHope to join me, for moral support. (You know how it goes! We expected to put in our obligatory hour, hand out a couple business cards in that time, and then leave. That didn’t happen.

Setting goals is crucial for growing your business! Without them, you won't have accountability and motivation. We got ‘adopted’ by some awesome folks at the event and ended up staying for FOUR HOURS! We were also pointed in the direction of some other amazing networking groups and opportunities and handed out quite a few business cards. I wish I had more publicly stated this goal – it was such a resounding success, and I’m so glad I got out of my comfort zone to achieve this goal. What unspoken goals do you have that need to be spoken?

August 2017’s Business Goals and Lessons Learned:

Bring on one new client – FAILURE

I ended up focusing on networking over lead generation, and while I didn’t bring in any new clients this month, things look good for the future. I’ve had several referrals sent my way and we’re about to wrap up one of the Unit’s current client projects. The networking has yielded a number of fantastic connections who are excited about exchanging leads, and they’re challenging me to push to the next level. I’m excited to see where September takes Unit 25 and our clients!

Grow Pinterest to 350 followers – FAILURE

Oh my word, this one was SO close to success! We were only a couple dozen short of this. We kept getting hit by massive follow-unfollows, which probably affects how Unit 25 looks to Pinterest’s algorithm. Oh well. I’m still happy with the growth of Unit 25’s Pinterest, and 350 was a bit ambitious but doable. I’ll keep plugging away at it and utilizing Tailwind* and BoardBooster*. If you’d like to join me and Unit 25 on Pinterest, you can join the Sharing Entrepreneurship Tribe on Tailwind (you don’t even have to be a Tailwind member!) and the Best of Entrepreneurship group board. We’d love to have you!

Grow Twitter to 200 followers – FAILURE

Honestly, this is okay. Twitter has never brought in much traffic, and I’ve decided to switch gears and give Instagram a try again. I’ve been following Jenna Kutcher and her amazing Goal Digger podcast (if you don’t listen yet, you need to!), and she’s finally convinced me to get back onto the platform. Rather than keep putting more effort into Twitter, I’m going to continue to let RecurPost* run my automatic posts and continue to post organically as I have been but not worry about perceived growth. I’m excited for the change!

Create a new opt-in incentive – SUCCESS!!

Finally! I got this one done, and it was so fun. Normally, GIMP is my go-to for graphic design-type projects, but it wasn’t a great option for this, so I finally got into Canva. I still won’t use Canva for anything except worksheet-type projects, but it was definitely quicker this time. The new freebie resource goes along with the Unit’s new ACE coaching service. The worksheet walks you through a review of your business up to the present and evaluate your future business goals so that you can create a plan. If you’re interested in getting this freebie, grab your copy here!

Send local marketing campaign out – partial failure

A bit frustrating, but oh well. I did make progress on this. Kaitlyn over at The Crown Fox recommended a trade printer after my office printer failed to be up to the job. I’m working on making sure I’m getting good bang for my buck, so this is going to stay on my goals list for September. I’m excited about this project/goals because I’ve teamed up with my friend Elizabeth from ByElizabethHope.com for it. She’s an amazing artist, and she created a print of the local town hall’s clock tower. I’m using that piece as the front of a postcard and sending it out to select local businesses. It’ll be fun to get to meet other local entrepreneurs and help them grow their businesses!

My Unit 25 Creative + Consulting Goals for September 2017:

Bring on one new client

With the new leads and networking opportunities that have come along in August, I’m more confident of this goal in September. I’m also planning on revamping the copy on the Unit 25 website to better reflect our updated mission of growing businesses, so that’s going to be exciting! I’m hoping to eventually get to the point where I need to hire other ACE Growth Coaches, but that’s a goal for later down the road.

If you’re in a period of growth and need a team to support you, Unit 25 can be your extra hands. Check out our branding, content, marketing, and support services – we would love to work with you! If you’re looking for a Growth Action Plan, check out our ACE Growth Coaching service, too.

Grow Pinterest to 375 followers

August’s Pinterest goal was SOOOOO close to fruition! We’re going to up this goal a bit for September and see how it goes.

Post to Instagram at least three times a week

I’m really excited to try out Jenna’s techniques and make deeper connections, but I’m not setting a followers goal this month. I’d rather focus on making those connections and sharing consistently so that you can get to know me better and I can get to know you. If you want to join me, I’m at instagram.com/jennunit25 and I’d love to follow along with you too!

Revamp the Unit 25 copy/website layout

Donald Miller’s StoryBrand book is almost out, but I was blessed enough to snag an Advance Reader’s Copy and I’ve been working through the exercises this month. It was a bit of a ‘bonus’ goal, which I more than succeeded in! I not only outlined Unit 25’s StoryBrand, but I did the same thing for the Conquer Google Analytics course, and I’ll be updating that soon too. Now that we’ve settled into Unit 25’s pivot, I’m ready to make it clearer in our website and marketing materials. It’s SO exciting and I can’t wait to get started!

Send local marketing campaign out

Yep, this is staying on the list. It’s been here for way too long, so let’s not even get into it, haha. It WILL be off the list in October!
