Every month, I recap the goals from the previous month – what worked and what didn’t and, most importantly, WHY – and set new business goals for the coming month. There’s been a lot happening here, so let’s dive into how March’s goals turned out and what we’re looking at for April!
March 2018’s Business Goals and Lessons Learned:
Increase email subscribers – SUCCESS
March was the month of opt-in quizzes! Along with some fellow entrepreneurs, I got a group license deal on Thrive’s Quiz Builder plugin. (Group deals are seriously the bomb! You should try it. Instead of paying $67 for one license, we each paid $25. BOOM.) That deal got me started experimenting with opt-in quizzes and after adding a quiz to my Dubsado vs. 17hats blog post, my email list finally started growing again!
For months, I’ve been putting off making new opt-in freebies because they take so much time and I’ve put maybe more than I should a lot on my plate. Quizzes just make SO much more sense to me. I’m still able to provide value to those opting in but I actually enjoy creating quizzes, which I can’t say for most opt-in freebies. It also enables me to better screen leads so that I can provide the best resources for their stage of business growth. Win-win!
BONUS: Just after I set up my Dubsado vs. 17hats quiz, I got an email from Interact, asking if I’d be interested in becoming a partner. That sparked a lightbulb moment for me. While I was setting up my quiz (and creating subsequent quizzes), some of the others who had been part of the group deal on the Thrive Quiz Builder plugin had been asking for input and advice on the best strategy for their own quizzes. I ended up creating a comprehensive blog post about creating a signature opt-in quiz and I started thinking about what else I could do with quizzes.
I’ve decided to start moving towards offering quiz services. That means I’ll be helping clients create a quiz strategy, figure out their quiz result profiles and questions, and set up their quizzes. It’s going to be fun and I can’t wait to watch the growth that quizzes will trigger for my future quiz clients! 🎉
Write a welcome email sequence – SUCCESS
Oh my gosh, I am SO proud of myself! I’ve also been putting this off for ages because I just couldn’t figure out what to include in my welcome sequence. But I DID IT. I think I even finished this goal before the 15th, too! 😱
I now have my general welcome sequence set up and I feel more confident about creating future targeted email sequences, so that’s a double win. Whoot!
Edit at least two Sparking Growth Podcast episodes – SUCCESS
I finished editing Becky’s minisode about LinkedIn as well as Yvonne’s minisode about time management. It’s not a ton, but with all the craziness that’s been happening this month, both personally and in my businesses, I’m just happy to have gotten any episodes edited!
Get back on Instagram – partial failure
Okay, so this one started out as a success. I scheduled a week’s worth of posts in Planoly but I must not have set it up right because it didn’t post anything in the end. I’m also re-evaluating this goal because it’s been on my list forever and clearly it isn’t as high on the priority list as I want to think it is. With everything that’s going on right now, I think Instagram is just going to have to be on the backburner for a while. Oh well!
Finish Dubsado workshop materials – postponed
The quarterly course that these materials are for was postponed a little bit due to some changed priority for Yvonne, so I moved this one to April’s goals.

Update my signature opt-in quiz
I put together a signature opt-in quiz in March but I realized it didn’t do quite what I’d intended. I wanted you to get an idea of what areas of your business need to be worked on so you’re ready to grow your business. The quiz I created isn’t bad, necessarily, but it doesn’t yield the right results.
This month, I’m going to be recreating and updating that quiz to show the EXACT areas that you may be struggling in. This gives you, the quiz taker, concrete results to hang your hat on and it gives me insight into what my audience may need help with so that I can share resources to help in those areas. I’m excited to knock this goal out!
Rebrand Unit 25
In case you haven’t heard, Unit 25 is in for some changes. Between trying to differentiate Unit 25 vs. Studio 25 (they’re WAY too closely named!) and realizing that “Unit 25 Creative + Consulting” doesn’t really speak to anything that we do, I decided it was time. I have to look into the legal side (e.g. how to change an LLC’s registered name), but Unit 25 will become The Creative Entrepreneurs Lab or The CE Lab for short.
This is an exciting change and I think it will help define what we do here. Our overall mission and services won’t change, but the rebrand should help clarify that mission and the company’s vision. So keep an eye out for The CE Lab to take off soon!
Create Dubsado workshop materials
Yvonne over at AskYvi asked me if I would be interested in presenting a workshop about Dubsado for the quarterly hands-on course she’s planning to launch this summer. I love working with Dubsado, so of course, I said yes! In the 3-month course, she’ll be covering things like work/task management, client processing, and marketing/outreach, so Dubsado’s workflows and other great tools will fit like a glove. I can’t wait to put together the materials for this!

THE BIG ONE: Put together my quiz service packages!
Okay, so I’ve talked a lot about the opt-in quizzes I’ve been putting together lately and what an impact they’ve had. In talking with others about quizzes and how they can best utilize them, I realized that this was a service I could provide that some folks desperately need. I’m hoping to partner with Interact officially as a Certified Consultant once I get this service off the ground, too!
In April, I’ll be working with a few select entrepreneurs to create signature quizzes that they will be able to use to grow their email lists. Once we get those quizzes up and running and gathering statistics, I’ll pull together those stats and talk with my beta clients to create case studies to base my quiz service packages on. So okay, maybe it’s not THE biggest goal for this month (the rebrand probably should be), but it’s definitely up there and I’m psyched for it!
